Scotland Griddle Scones biscuits Ideas

Scones Recipe

Griddle scones are A VERY traditional tea time treat in Scotland. Scotland (unlike the rest of the UK) doesn't really have a "cream tea" culture but they are a favourite served with lashings of fresh butter or home made jam. You will find a good variety of scones at bakers throughout scotland and this is simply one recipe for a plain griddle scone

Gridle Scones

Ingredients:
8 oz Flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 oz butter
1 teaspoon golden syrup
1/2 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
1/2 teaspoon of cream of tartar
8fl oz Buttermilk
full cream milk

Method:
Sift the flour into a bowl. Add all the other dry ingredients and mix well. Rub in the butter, then add the syrup and milk. Mix thsi with a knife until the consistency is soft and pliable

Turn onto a floured surface and roll quickly and lightly, handling as little as possible,to approx 3/4 inch thick. Cut into rounds

Grease and heat the gridle(or heavy frying pan). Lift the scones onto the girdle and turn once until brown on both sides. Serve freshly baked (normally with butter)

Tip for testing heat in gridle:
Sprinkle a little flour on it. If the flour turns brown immediately then it is TOO hot. It should take a few seconds to change colour.
