Ho BaeChu

This is a light nutritious vegetable recipe from Korea, and you can make it vegetarian by substituting meat sauce by kimchi (hot) sauce. Ho BaeChu makes an excellent appetizer or main course, and you can feed as many people as you like by increasing the amount of ingredients.
For US to UK equivalents see this rough guide

Recipe Ingredients:

  • 6 Chinese cabbage leaves
  • 1 garlic clove, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds
  • 1 dash of cayenne pepper
  • 1 dash black pepper
  • 2 tbsp of Korean meat sauce or Kimchi sauce

Method:

Wash the cabbage and cut the leaves in thin stripes. Cook the cabbage in a steamer for 5 min. Add chopped garlic and sesame oil and mix well. Add the pepper, salt, cayenne to the cooking cabbage and stir well. Add the meat sauce and cook on high heat for 5 min. Serve hot with steamed rice or alone.

As with all recipes which involve cooking and baking a sensible approach must be taken especially when dealing with warm or hot (temperature) ingredients. If you are unable to take due care, please do not attempt to make any of these recipes. All recipes are tried at your own risk.
