Sweet Chestnuts

Sweet chestnuts have a delicate woodsy taste and work well in this yummy dessert with vanilla and cream!
For US to UK equivalents see this rough guide

Recipe Ingredients:

  • 1 kg sweet chestnuts
  • 4 cups milk
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla powder
  • 3 tbsp cinnamon
  • 2 cups sugar
  • Cream to garnish

Method:

Boil the chestnuts in water and peel the skin offs. Mince half the chestnuts and add sugar.

Place the peeled nuts in milk with vanilla powder. Keep aside.

In a pan add the chestnut paste and sugar and cook until it becomes like thick paste.

Put the puree in a plastic bag, cut the corner and squeeze the paste in circular shape.

Add the glassed chestnuts into the puree nest.

Garnish with the cream and serve.

As with all recipes which involve cooking and baking a sensible approach must be taken especially when dealing with warm or hot (temperature) ingredients. If you are unable to take due care, please do not attempt to make any of these recipes. All recipes are tried at your own risk.
